A lonesome Thanksgiving.

To me, Thanksgiving is the ultimate family holiday. It is all about eating the most delicious food and soaking up some much needed time with the ones you love. I have spent every Thanksgiving my entire life with my dear family... this year is different. Since we live over 2300 miles away from home and we are going home for Christmas, a flight during Thanksgiving (for at least $400 a person) doesn't really make sense. Thus, we will be spending Thanksgiving in Florida. I will be with the man I love so much but I will really miss all my family. Since I will be missing home ALOT and Dave has a few days off of school, we want to do something really fun. This is where you come in... Here are a few of the things we have thought about...

1. Two night getaway to Daytona Beach.
-This is a great deal- less than $200. It is only 2 hours away and we would get to soak up some rays during the holiday. Plus, I wouldn't have to cook an actual thanksgiving dinner for just us.

2. Spend Thanksgiving day in Disney World.
-Do I really need to say anything here? We have never been. And I would definitely not be missing home at all if I am in the happiest place on Earth!! This is a little more pricey than the first but it is Disney World!!

3. Two night cruise to the Bahamas.
-We would leave on Thanksgiving Day and drive down by Miami (5ish hour drive) and spend the afternoon on the ship. The entire next day is in the Bahamas :) Never been there either... hmmm. THIs choice is the most pricey but still under $400!! Great deal, right??

4. Thanksgiving dinner in Gainesville and go Black Friday Shopping.
-Let's be real, this is probably the most likely option. It does include me making Thanksgiving dinner though... that is a lot of money and work. However, I LOVE Black Friday shopping! I get so excited about it every year! Nothing is better than getting a good deal!

Basically when it comes down to it, I am going to miss home a lot that day! So I want to be really busy doing something REALLY fun! So we have four options people. I have been trying to plan something for over a month- Dave doesn't really care what we do... to an extent. So I need some good advice.
If it were you, which option would you choose and why??

What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year??

  1. GO TO DISNEYLAND!! I live in Australia, but have been to Disneyland and it was honestly one of the best days of my life. It will keep you super distracted and be such a good time to spend some quality time with your husband :) And perhaps you could still fit in some black friday shopping? :)

  2. Bahamas for sure! We've been looking into going on a cruise... But the problem isn't the cost of the cruise... It's the cost of GETTING to the boat. Which is one reason you guys are lucky to live in Florida... They all take off from there! Whatever you do, a day with the hubby is always a good day!

  3. I love that you think this way. I'm pretty sure I will be the same way, some day when we will live away from family. I love your blog and I think you are amazing. Thanks for adding more light to my life every day with your blog :).

  4. Hard to choose! I can't do it!!!! Hahaha I am not even sure my thanksgiving plans. But most likely I will be sad about them because I probably won't be with my family and probably will work thanksgiving and Black Friday! All things I have never experienced. Wish me luck and enjoy your thanksgiving!!!

  5. I vote for either Bahamas (because hello, it's the Bahamas!) or Disneyworld. Either one would distract you plenty. I'm right along with you in missing our family. At least you get to do something fun!

  6. Disney World!! I've always wanted to go!
We are spending Thanksgiving with my husband's family in Hawaii. We fly out on Thanksgiving day.
While I am super stoked because I've never been to Hawaii, I'm going to miss my family like crazy, cause yeah, I've never not been with them. but I mean, it's Hawaii....

  8. Ummmm all of these sound amazing!! Personally, I think I'd go to Disneyworld, because I'm basically obsessed with Disney. A cruise would be awesome though too! I don't know how you do it, being so far away from your family! I'm so sad having my family mainly in Colorado, which isn't even that far!

  9. So many options! I think I'd probably pick the Daytona since it seems like the least expensive and doesn't involve cooking.

I've actually spent the last two Thanksgivings by myself. I cook a turkey and some of the fixings and just chill out like it's any other day. I'll probably be doing the same this year. I'll have to work on Friday for sure. :(

  11. Oh my gosh that's so hard to choose from!!! I don't know if I could ever miss Black Friday shopping, that's my thing! Haha. Yikes, I can't wait to hear what you choose!

  12. Oh my gosh. These are fun idea! Okay, I think I would do the Disneyworld one or the Black Friday shopping one! I love Black Friday shopping but think Disneyworld just sounds amazing too. Can't wait to hear what you guys do!

  13. Oh wow, all of those ideas all sound amazing... I'd probably choose the Bahamas, though, if it were me. I just love the beach and have always wanted to do a cruise... then again, Disney is never a bad idea, especially if you've never been!

Let us know what you choose!

  14. We'll be home alone too. My family is in Florida and his are in Wisconsin...and much like you our plane tickets to Florida for Christmas are $400 a person...stupid airline companies!
    Those options look spectacular!
We will just be at home, me making a Thanksgiving dinner all on my own while my husband is at work :( (he has to work thanksgiving)...I'm treating it as a practice run for a year when I'll have to cook for more than just us.

  15. I'd say Disney World all the way. When my husband and I were first married we lived far from family. We were able to get together with friends in a similar situation. We cooked together, watched football and played games. It wasn't family, but it helped.

  16. Disney. Definitely! I've done thanksgiving at Disneyland and it was so much fun. There aren't huge crowds so you can just jump right on all the rides. I'm actually jealous! Can I come with you guys? Haha!

    Found you through the hop!

  17. All of these options sound amazing. It would be fun for the two of you to start your own NEW tradition...by going to Disney World. How can you resist???

  18. aw I'd love to do something fun like this for Thanksgiving. I'd probably go on the two night cruise to the Bahamas.

Have fun on whatever yall decide to do :)

  19. Honestly, I can totally recommend Disney (hands down) or The Bahamas (honeymooned there). If its a carnival cruise, don't do it. I know what you mean about missing family. Its weird not spending the holiday with your family. This is my first year doing it with my husband's family and I'm going to totally miss my family's traditions.

  21. I would do number 3 personally. I love cruises and I think they are amazing. I made Thanksgiving last year for the two of us(3 really, but my daughter was only a few months old) and t was too much work. Disney world will probably be busy during a holiday.

  22. i would totally go to disney! i went multiple times when i was younger, then my hubby and i went with my parents in march and we had so much fun! sure, tickets are a little pricey, but disney totally does it up right and i'm sure it would be fun on thanksgiving too! you could always do some black friday shopping at the orlando premium outlets the next day too! can't wait to hear what you decide!

  24. The hubs & I have always said we'd love to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas on our own & take a trip but we've yet to do it. Maybe someday. I love the idea of going to Disney World. We live about an hour from Disneyland & as much as it is I hear there's nothing quite like Disney World. Wherever you go I hope you have a blast!

I'll be at home with the parents & my younger brothers, scarfing down tons of turkey & ham :)
